Hello Kindergarten Families,
We had a super fun week using the big gymnastic equipment. Thanks for everyone sending their kids to school in "gymnastics friendly" clothing. The children did a great job following safe routines and experimenting moving their bodies in different ways on the equipment. Today we worked in our journals drawing about this experience. The children also wrote "I can" statements, now that we have learned the letter Cc in Ufli Literacy. Children wrote sentences such as:
-I can hang on the bar.
-I can run and jump on the mat.
-I can climb on the ladder.
They are really beginning to see themselves as writers!
Climbing up and hanging on the ropes.
A class favourite: Ramp and big mat
Hanging on the high bar.
Exploring the barrel.
The skinning balance beam is tricky. Kids did a great job jumping off with a "safety landing".
Ask your kids what "motorcycle grip" is?
Careful concentration on the transitions.
Sliding across the high beam.
Doing pull ups! Wow!
Next Week, we will continue with gymnastics so please have your child come to school dressed like you did this week. We will be doing "Mission Impossible". The equipment will be set up like an obstacle course (a slow and careful one), which they will move through. It will be fun.
We have been learning math, science and language through our exploration of ocean environments. We have been examining shallow waters (the Sunlit Zone), where we find ocean plants, coral reefs and a huge diversity of marine life. We have also look at the creatures that spend time in the Pelagic Zone (deep water), such as humpback whales and Manta Rays). Today we explored the Midnight Zone and The Abyss, where few creatures have adapted to living in an environment with no sun, huge pressure and cold waters.
Examining shells, corals and sponge specimens.
Building 3-D fish using plastercine.
Playing the "fishing game." Fishing then sorting the fish by their attributes.
We also learned a new math game with a lot of strategy. In our shark game, the kids could break the number they rolled apart as they moved the sharks towards the food, to avoid their opponent getting the prey.
The Kinder Team.
