Weekly Message: Nov 27
Hello Kindergarten Families,
It was great seeing so many of you today and over that last week. If scheduling did not work for your family this week, email you teacher and we would be happy to meet next week after class or through a Teams Meeting.
Our learning from this week:
Math:
We have introduced patterning and worked on recognizing familiar dot patterns, such as the ones found on dice.
Literacy:
We introduced the letters Aa and Mm using our UFLI literacy program. We were able to practice forming these sounds and printing the letters.
Social/Science:
We continued to explore our outdoor environment this week using our five senses. The children noticed things like crunchy snow, frosty breath, and cold air touching their skin. They noticed that snow doesn't have much of a smell. We also had lots of fun digging and playing with the snow.
Afterwards we worked on making different kind of lines (straight, horizontal, vertical, slanted, curvy) to make a winter picture with snowflakes and wind. You can see those on display during our parent-teacher conferences this Friday.
Hopefully everyone received their green sheet about our Celebrations Photos. We will use the photos in class next week and for several weeks after. Even if you student will be absent next week, please send in a photo by email. Already I am receiving photos showing an incredible diversity of amazing family traditions from attending pow wows, birthday candle races from the Czech Republic, and caroling traditions with friends and families.
Your child will be sharing their picture with their peers in partners and groups and looking for common themes. The more your child has had opportunities to talk about their picture the more confident they will be sharing, so please spend some time talking to your child about the picture you are sending. Think about questions their peers might ask? Who are you celebrating with? When do you do this celebration? What is their favourite part? How do they participate in the preparation or events of your celebration?
Speaking of celebrations. There is a week of spirit days coming up at the end of the month, which I added under important dates.
Have a great weekend.
Your Kinder Team
