Weekly Message: Friday December 8

 Weekly Message

We are definitely getting into the Holiday spirit here in Kindergarten. Our students did a wonderful job at the winter concert; their hard work shone through, and it was a joyful learning experience for everyone. The children have been busy pretending in our Cozy Christmas Baking Centre making pretend cookies and treats. These spaces now have Christmas Trees, which we have been decorating with some beautiful ornaments from the writing centre.  We used our senses to make some observations about some Christmas presents.  We looked at the size and shape of the presents and used our sense of hearing to help us make guesses of what was inside!

Our learning from this week:

Math:

We have continued patterning and worked on making patterns with bingo dobbers to look like Christmas lights. We also played the math game, "Garbage", which helps children learn to sequence numbers from 1-5 using power of ten cards.

 Literacy:

We have learned letters Aa, Mm, Ss and Tt. We are continuing to practice forming the sounds these letters make and printing them during writing. We have introduced the Heart words: The, and I. Keep practicing writing these letters and words at home as well as observing them in your daily surroundings. It is helpful to point out letters that you can see around the home and on signs as you go by them.

Social/Science:

We have been enjoying sharing our family pictures with each other. We use the framework, "I see" (what can you directly observe in the picture), "I think" (inferences and predictions) and "I wonder", questions the picture provokes.

We will continue sharing our family pictures this upcoming week.

Family Friday:

Students enjoyed meeting in their Family Friday groups again today.  Ask them what their group did today?
