Hello Kindergarten Families,  We have been excited to start learning  some volleyball fundamentals this week as we have practiced "volleying/setting" and "bumping" with small beach balls. This helps students learn technique and strengthen their fingers and arms.  Literacy :   We have learned letters Aa, Mm, Ss, Tt, Pp, Ff,  Ii  and  Nn . We were super excited to read a new story featuring the letter Nn and our new sight word "is".  Before reading  The Pin In the Map, we identified the heart words:  I, A, the and is . We highlighted these to remind us that we cannot sound the whole word out.  Please practice this decodable story and your /n/ homework sheet and store them in your blue, at-home, literacy folder.  Please ensure you are practicing heart words, letters and sounds and decodable words that we have sent home for the past couple months.                  ...

Hello Kindergarten Families,  We spent much of our week working with students individually to complete mandated the Alberta Provincial Assessments in literacy and mathematics. Your children have shown amazing stamina and resilience while completing these. They also showed great "flexible thinking", working with different guest teachers and moving in and out of activities during their testing times.  Our learning from this week:   Math:   We have continued to explore the concepts of size.  This week we compared: sorting a set of objects into group by size (big/medium/small), with ordering objects in a sequence from smallest to largest. The student then, independently cut out and ordered snowflakes to show their understanding. We will send these home next week. During centres we have also explored sequencing objects from shortest to tallest.    We have also been practicing our game, Garbage, which helps us practice ordering numbers (1-5) on ten-fram...

Hello Kindergarten Families, Welcome back! We hope your winter break was refreshing and full of quality family time. The kindergarten students were happy to be back. This week we drew in our journals about our break and what we did during the time away from school. We also started on some winter art, with help from our grade ¾ buddies, by ripping masking tape and preparing to make a "Tree in Winter", inspired by the beautiful rime frost covered trees we had at the beginning of the week.  It was wonderful watching the students help each other and build relationships across grade levels.    We have also had a lot of fun exploring our new Puppet Theatre centre.  The children have been exploring how to create a story with puppets, along with exploring other roles such as selling tickets and popcorn and being an audience member.  The class has been working hard with our small finger muscles, ripping and scrunching yellow paper to make our pretend popcorn.  Our l...
